After breakfast, you will be collected up from the hotel and driven to the Kilimanjaro entrance gate. The spectacular mountain rainforest, which is populated by eons-old trees, ferns, liana, lichen, and moss that hangs from the branches and covers the ground, may be reached quickly. Today's trek includes a gradual ascent and sweeping vistas. After a hearty lunch at the base of the Lava Tower (4,600 m), we drop to the bottom of the Great Barranco valley as we go around the southwest flank of Kilimanjaro, passing beneath the Lava Tower and the last portion of the Western Breach (3,950 m).

Day 4: Kilimanjaro hiking from Barranco Camp to Karanga camp

We arrive right below the Heim Glacier after a strenuous ascent up the eastern side, where we might be treated to some breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro. The trail then descends through the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley before a difficult ascent to Karanga Camp. After taking a steep escape up the Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeast slopes of Kibo, we then continue on our descent.

The rest of the day is spent relaxing as we get ready for the final ascent before an early-morning summit trek after a nice meal at the Camp.

Day 6: Kilimanjaro hiking from Barafu Camp to Uhuru peak to Mweka Camp

Before midnight, in the shadows, get up. A slow but steady pace will get us to Stella Point, which is the rim of the main crater, at a height of 5,735 metres, after we start a hard climb over loose volcanic scree with some well-graded zigzags. We'll take a little break there to watch the sunrise over Mawenzi. The main peak (5,895 m), which is the highest point in Africa, is two hours from here along the crater rim for those who are still in good spirits. After taking a moment to recognise your accomplishments, we quickly descend to Barafu Camp, where we stop for a snack before continuing to descend to Mweka Camp.
